Posting some of the photos I added to my favorites on 500px. One of the most interesting photographers I have seen lately is Hot Dog Photography (http://500px.com/HotDogPhotography). Their photographs of dogs are just awesome! Hopefully we can interview these guys soon and get some more info about them (I don’t even know his or her name or names yet, there is very little info in the profile and on their webpage).

500px July Stats

Ian just posted some 500px statistics on our blog.
We got close to 280K visitors in July and over 2 million pageviews — not bad :)

Here is the Google Analytics view:

Over this past month we saw a substantial growth in European and US traffic, which is pretty good.
Now we are focusing on the portfolio services and some improvements to our blogs and the journalism platform, which hopefully will bring even more visitors to the site.

Stay tuned :)

Fireworks in Disney World

In the beginning of July Diana and I went to Florida for a couple of days. One of our destinations was Disney World. It was a kind of a remote dream to go there when I was a kid, and when I grew up, I forgot about it. And now I went there. It is pretty cool, once I have kids I will definitely take them there :)

This is the picture of the fireworks that went right above our heads at 9pm.

US Airways FAIL

Last weekend Diana and I flew to Orlando to visit Disney World. I booked tickets for US Airways flight on Expedia. I also booked a rental car and a hotel, which I prepaid for.

There were huge line-ups at Person for US customs and security and we showed up at the gate for our flight 10 minutes before it was supposed to leave. Only to find there was no US Airways personnel at the gate. There were several other people at the gate and all of us were wondering what to do next. The airplane was still at the gate. 5-6 minutes later a US Airways employee named Dave S. came out of the corridor and when asked — said that we were too late and that there was nothing he could do.

There were no announcements made for missing passengers, they did not page to get, they were not looking for us.

Dave S. had a radio in his hand which he used to talk to the crew on the plane, so he could easily notify the flight attendants, and it would take us 2 minutes to board the plane, but he chose not to do this.

In addition, he said that our luggage would be off the plane and onto the carousel 12. So fine, we go back to the carousels and wait for out luggage. An hour later — no luggage. I went to the US Airways customer representative desk and this is what I saw there:

Nonexistent US Airway customer service

After another 30-40 minute wait a customer service rep lazily showed up and after several conversations with the “baggage room” they determined my luggage was on the plane to Orlando. WTF!?

I was furious at this point, but had nothing else to do at Pearson airport, so I had a beer to cool off and went home.

Moral of the story — if you actually want to get anywhere — DO NOT FLY WITH US AIRWAYS EVER.
